Understanding the function of each component is key to proper maintenance. Here are explanations for some of the parts we sell:
Caterpillar 3406E Turbocharger: Installed on the engine's exhaust manifold. It uses exhaust gases to spin a turbine, which forces more air into the cylinders, increasing engine power and efficiency. Used on CAT heavy-duty trucks and equipment.
Komatsu PC200-8 Water Pump: A key part of the cooling system, mounted to the front of the engine block. It circulates coolant through the engine, radiator, and hoses to prevent overheating in excavators like the PC200-8.
Cummins 6BT5.9 Crankshaft: The "backbone" of the engine, located in the lower part of the cylinder block. It converts the up-and-down motion (reciprocating) of the pistons into rotational motion.
Isuzu 6HK1 Injector: Mounted in the cylinder head with its tip in the combustion chamber. It sprays a fine mist of diesel fuel into the cylinder at high pressure for combustion. Common in Isuzu F-Series trucks.
Yanmar 4TNV98 Cylinder Head: Sits on top of the cylinder block, sealing the combustion chamber. It houses the valves, injectors (or spark plugs), and camshafts. Critical for engines in compact excavators.
Kubota V2203 Oil Pump: Located inside the engine's oil pan. It pumps engine oil from the pan to all moving parts, such as bearings and pistons, to lubricate and cool them.
Weichai WD615 Overhaul Gasket Kit: This is not a single part, but a complete set of seals and gaskets (like the head gasket, valve seals, and O-rings) needed to completely rebuild a Weichai WD615 engine.
Komatsu S6D102 Piston Ring: These rings are fitted into grooves on the piston. They seal the combustion chamber, transfer heat from the piston to the cylinder wall, and control oil consumption.
Caterpillar C15 Connecting Rod: This component connects the piston to the crankshaft. It transfers the force of combustion from the piston down to the crankshaft, causing it to rotate.
Cummins ISX Main Bearing: These are "plain" bearings (sleeves) that support the rotating crankshaft, holding it in place within the engine block. They are critical for handling the engine's load.
Equipment Example: Caterpillar 3306 Engine in a D6 Bulldozer
Fault: The engine temperature gauge consistently shows overheating, especially under load.
Common Causes & Solutions:
1. Low Coolant Level: The most common cause.
Solution: Check for leaks in hoses, the radiator, or the water pump. A faulty head gasket (part of an overhaul gasket kit) could also cause coolant loss. Refill the system and bleed any trapped air.
2. Faulty Thermostat: The thermostat may be stuck closed, preventing coolant from flowing to the radiator.
Solution: Remove the thermostat and test it in hot water to see if it opens. If not, replace it.
3. Slipping Fan Belt or Faulty Fan: The fan belt may be loose, or the fan clutch (if equipped) may be failing, reducing airflow through the radiator.
Solution: Tighten or replace the fan belt. Inspect the fan clutch for proper operation.
4. Clogged Radiator: External fins may be clogged with dirt and debris, or internal passages may be blocked by rust and scale.
Solution: Clean the radiator fins externally with compressed air or water. If internally clogged, the system may need a professional flush.
