3. Faulty Main Relief Valve: If the main relief valve is stuck partially open, it constantly bleeds high-pressure oil back to the tank, generating excessive heat.
4. Worn Hydraulic Pump: An internally worn main hydraulic pump (like a K3V series) will have lower efficiency, converting more energy into heat instead of hydraulic power.
5. Cooling Fan Malfunction: The engine's cooling fan (or the separate fan for the hydraulic cooler, if equipped) may be slipping, have broken blades, or a faulty hydraulic fan motor.
Solution Steps:
1. Clean the Cooler: First, safely shut down the machine. Use compressed air or a pressure washer (at a safe distance) to thoroughly clean the hydraulic oil cooler and engine radiator.
2. Check Oil Level: Park the machine on level ground, retract all cylinders (bucket in, arm in, boom down) and check the hydraulic oil level in the sight glass. Top up with the correct specification oil if low.
3. Inspect the Fan: Visually inspect the fan blades and belt tension (if belt-driven). Ensure the fan is pulling a strong, steady stream of air through the cooler.
4. Test Relief Pressure: If the above steps do not solve the problem, a qualified technician should use pressure gauges to test the main relief valve pressure. Adjust or replace the valve if it is out of specification.
